Mark Borrelli is a Coastal Geologist and the Director of the new Coastal Processes and Ecosystems Laboratory, or CAPE Lab, a joint research effort between the School for the Environment within UMass Boston and the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Current research projects include: (1) measuring the equilibrium constants for the formation of thioarsenate anions and developing equilibrium models to predict arsenic speciation in sulfidic waters (2) quantifying the oceanic benthic fluxes of the rare earth elements (REE) and Nd isotopes (i.e., ε Nd), and building reactive transport models for marine and estuarine sediments and (3) quantifying the biogeochemical behavior of oxyanion-forming trace elements in euxinic water bodies and their underlying sediments to help improve our understanding of marine paleoredox proxies.ĭr.
